Our Technology

Our patented VCR system dynamically adjusts the compression ratio by controlling the Top Dead Center (TDC) position. This reduces emissions and significantly improves fuel efficiency. Implementation of this VCR technology results in up to 10% reduction in gasoline fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions in the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicles Test Cycle (WLTC).

WHAT SETS US APART

Several key factors distinguish our VCR technology

Fuel and CO Reduction

In gasoline-fueled spark-ignition engines, our VCR system achieves up to a 10% reduction in both fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions (part load), with a compression ratio range of 10:1 to 16:1.

Our VCR technology has demonstrated significant benefits across various applications, unmatched by competing VCR systems.

Fully Variable Compression Ratio

Our system features fully variable actuation over the complete VCR range, with high-speed VCR adjustments occurring in just 0.2 seconds (from max CR to min CR) and low power consumption.

Performance Enhancement

Single-cylinder (non turbo) motorbike engines have experienced up to a 6% increase in power output, using an increased 12:1 CR above 4000 rpm , enhancing overall performance. Engines have a reduced knock sensitivity at higher rpms.

A True 4 Stroke Cycle with Integrated Overexpansion

Because the eccentrics are running at half the speed of the crankshaft we offer a true 4-stroke cycle with integrated overexpansion, leading to additional fuel efficiency.

Seamless Integration

The VCR system is fully integrated on the crankshaft, resulting in a minimum impact on existing engine architecture.

No limit in Max Combustion Pressure

In the minimum compression ratio (CR) position the eccentric aligns with the combustion forces transmitted through the conrod. This means that the load on the VCR gears when in full load operation, and in the minimum CR position, actually the lowest load for the VCR gears. Our in-house developed hydraulic actuator features an integrated pressure relief valve that opens at a pressure that represents the durability load limit for the VCR gears and automatically adjusts to a lower CR position, protecting the VCR gears and ensuring long-term durability.

No Additional Friction

Because the eccentrics are running at half the speed of the crankshaft both the additional eccentric bearing and the conrod big-end bearing are running at half the speed of the crankshaft, leading to a reduction in overall bearing friction. The total friction of the VCR engine, including gear friction, is at the samel level as the non VCR engine.
